( 02 / What it is )

It is not a technical manual.

It won't show you how to connect your printer to the wifi.

It will help you reconnect with photography, and get better results when you print your photos.

A simple guide to making photography feel real again by completing the craft.

The same photograph shown twice, on a phone screen and printed and framed on a wall
Left, the photo on a phone. Right, the same photo on the wall. Same picture. Not the same thing.

Fast. Disposable. Forgotten.

  • Photography feels less exciting than it used to

  • You want your work to exist outside of screens

( 06 / Who wrote it )

Hi, I'm Mitch.

I make things and tell stories with a camera, a curious mind and a deep passion for documenting life.

Photography, for me, is an act of presence. A practice of curiosity about the spaces we inhabit and the small wonders often overlooked.

I wrote this because printing changed how I see my own work, and I wanted the version of this guide I could not find when I started.

( 09 / Questions )

Before you buy.

01Do I need a printer?

No. The guide covers three routes: mini printers, print labs, and larger home printers, with a chapter on which one is best for you. Plenty of people start by sending files to a lab and never own a printer at all.

02I have never printed anything. Is this too advanced?

No. There is a quick start guide on page 7 and beginner export settings included. It assumes you can take a photograph, not that you know anything about paper.

03I already print my work. Is there anything new in here?

It goes into paper types, print sizes, card mounting, framing and selling prints. If you already do all five confidently, then probably not, and I would rather tell you that than take your £20.

04Does it cover selling prints?

Yes. There is a chapter on paths to selling prints on page 39, a section on which photos actually sell on page 32, and a gear and equipment list at the back.

05Is this a physical book?

No. It is a 45 page PDF you read on a phone, tablet or laptop. The guide itself suggests printing it in A4 and stapling it, which is very much the spirit of the thing. It is yours to keep.

06How do I get it after I pay?

Straight away. A download link appears on the confirmation screen as soon as you check out, and the same link is emailed to you so you can come back to it later.

07What if it is not for me?

Email me within 30 days and I will refund you in full. No forms, no conditions, and you can keep the file. contact@mitchellucas.com
